All Kinds Of Girls
Girls Program
Serving 9-12 year olds, our Girls program is our largest program, with approximately 90 people registered annually. Girls from Worcester's elementary and middle schools meet every Saturday for activities and field trips that foster positive social connections and independent growth.
In order to make our large program more intimate and conducive to discussion, Girls are placed into a specific smaller groups when they arrive in the morning. These groups are same each week, and include several mentors who facilitate activities and discussions. Many activities are centered around these small groups, but others work with the large AKOG group as a whole.
Most Saturdays are theme days. On theme days, a particular topic is discussed in depth through a variety of interactive and fun activities. Superhero Day 2013 addressed leadership qualities through a guided discussion, drawings, and a visit from an AKOG alumnus. Anti-Violence Day 2013 addressed being a kind community member through yoga, play performances, and a talk from Professor Sam Diener. Crazy Fun Day 2013 addressed taking time to create joy in your life through a photobooth, frame-making, Gak, and more! Every week is different, but amazing.
In addition, we typically go on two field trips per year. In the past, we have traveled to the Rock Gym, Boston Aquarium, Boston Museum of Science, and Roller Kingdom. These trips are an exciting chance to go off-campus and explore somewhere new together!
AKOG will always be free-of-cost. We provide a nutritious lunch every week, though we cannot currently provide transportation options.
