Steering Committee

 

The Steering Committee is an egalitarian group of mentors who take on additional leadership responsibilities in order to run the day-to-day operations of AKOG. The group meets weekly to plan events, coordinate activities, and guide the direction of the non-profit.

Abby Waldron

Abby is a sophomore here at Clark University! She is a Junior Mentor Coordinator, which means that she works with the older girls in the program and helps put together fun activities for the day. This is her second year doing AKOG. She works at a bakery back home called The Cake Bar and she's been teaching kids how to decorate cupcakes for three years. She loves baking, boating, trying new food, and going for walks with her pug, Gertie. Beyond anything else, she is so pumped for a great year at AKOG and meeting so many new people!

Alexandra Gray

Grant Coordinator

This is Alexandra's third year participating in AKOG! Before she came to Clark, she assistant taught a kindergarten class at Hebrew school for five years. Fun Fact: she loves visiting art museums and she wants to work in museum education after she graduates.

Celia Ringland

Celia Ringland is a junior from Bethesda, Maryland. She is pursuing degrees in management and cultural studies & communication. Prior to joining AKOG as a mentor, she worked as a babysitter, camp counselor, and student teacher. This year she's working with Elyse on the AKOG Marketing & Outreach Team to register girls and update the website. This is Celia's third year in AKOG and she's so excited to be back!

Elyse Waksman

This is Elyse's third year as an AKOG mentor, and she's loved every minute of it! Last year, she helped plan the curriculum for each week’s activities, and this year she's working with Celia to recruit and register girls as well as contact the girls’ families. One of her favorite Saturdays in AKOG was our field trip to the roller skating rink! A fun fact about her is that she loves languages! She speaks Spanish and she's learning sign language too.

Danielle Augur

Danielle is currently a Clark senior from Wallingford, Connecticut. She is pursuing degrees in chemistry and international development and social change. This will be her second year as an AKOG mentor and also her second year serving on the Healthy Connections Council (HCC) team, which means she is a great go-to for any problems!

 

Haley Henneberry

Haley Henneberry is AKOG's Mentor Coordinator. She is a current senior here at Clark, studying English and Education. She is working on a pursuing a career as an elementary school teacher and, in the mean time, absolutely loves the time she gets to spend at AKOG. This is her third year with the program, but her youth work experience dates back years ago. She loves using all that she have learned as a Classroom Assistant, Girls Inc. employee, and camp counselor at AKOG. Finally, fun fact about her: she was a varsity pole vaulter for four years in high school and it was awesome! 

Lindsay Jerome

Lindsay is a Sophomore from Minneapolis, Minnesota majoring in psychology and double minoring in education and studio art. This is her second year of AKOG and first year on Steering Committee as one of the three curriculum leaders. She has worked with kids through being a nanny and babysitter for kids of all ages, in addition to making trips all over the country doing volunteer work involving children. She has traveled from New Orleans, Louisiana to help build homes for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, to Cortez, Colorado to play with impoverished kids at the local kid's camp, to South Dakota where she helped teach mentally and/or physically disabled kids how to ride horses. Lindsay loves art and envisions getting her PhD in pediatric clinical psychology with an emphasis in art therapy so that she can continue changing the lives of children of all ages. When she has down time, Lindsay enjoys painting, going on solo adventures to explore different cities, and watching videos from Discovery Channel's 'Curiosity' series. She looks forward to planning events she hopes the girls will love and getting to know the girls themselves; it'll be a great year!

Kayla Paton

Kayla Paton is currently a sophomore, pursing majors in psychology and international development and social change. This will be her second year in AKOG, and she is filling the role of nutrition coordinator. Outside of AKOG, she has volunteered in Vietnam bringing arts to youth. She is a Big with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Worcester. She Has also volunteered with St. Peters Mentoring Program. Additionally, this year she is taking on a job working at the YMCA as an activity leader for the after school program. When she is not working with children, she can most likely be found dancing in Atwood (she is a member of Clark's Dance Society) or teaching herself to cook, a new passion of hers!

 

Kim Johnson

Kim Johnson is a senior geography major who is one of the three curriculum coordinators for AKOG.  She joined AKOG in the spring of 2014 and is so grateful for the opportunity to get to know the amazing  girls and mentors that make the AKOG family.  Kim has a lot of experience working with children, as she has been a summer camp counselor in New Hampshire for the past five summers at YMCA Camp Coniston.  A fun fact about Kim is that she loves spontaneous dance parties!

Madilyn (Maddie) Jacobsen

Madilyn is a junior at Clark University, studying Geography with a concentration in Urban Development and Social Change. Since Fall 2013, she has been a member of All Kinds of Girls, through which she has enjoyed having tons of little sisters from the neighborhood. She was a babysitter and assistant swimming and english teacher over periodic summers throughout her youth. She took on the role as AKOG’s Administrative Coordinator in Fall 2014 and has continued with that role for this coming year. To share a fun fact, Madilyn loves chocolate chip cookies so much that she memorized the recipe the summer before starting college! 

Maggie Rhodes

This is Maggie's second year of AKOG. Over the summer she worked in the children's program of an organization that teaches parenting classes. Fun Fact: she lives on a farm with chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits, ducks, and cows.

Maya Zisette

Maya Zisette is a current junior at Clark. She is from Seattle Washington, and working on the Curriculum team this year for AKOG. She's majoring in Women and Gender Studies with a minor in Education. She's worked with kids all her life as a babysitter, nanny, camp counselor or teachers assistant and now as a mentor for AKOG. She's really excited for all of the fun activities we have planned for this year!

Becca Kranz

Becca is a sophomore from Boston on AKOG's Healthy Connections team. She’s pursuing women and gender studies and education. This is her second year in AKOG and she is grateful for every minute! She also works at the Central YMCA after school program. Becca has worked with kids since she stopped being one, and is excited to keep doing so for the rest of her life. Becca sings in a band with her best friends and likes being silly. Her other interests include dancing, reading, creating art, speaking her mind, using her imagination, and empowering girls. 

Molly Bond

Molly Bond is a sophomore Sociology major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Clark University. She is particularly interested in urban youth work, which makes AKOG the perfect club for her! This is her second year at AKOG. She loves dance, baking, sewing skirts, elephants and, of course, AKOG!
