Mentors

Our Mentor program run by passionate undergraduate women at Clark University who care about topics like children, education, social justice, and feminism, just to name a few. Mentors meet with our AKOGers every Saturday for theme days and field trips, where they help facilitate activities and form bonds with our AKOGers. We arrive before the Girls and Junior Mentors in order to set up for the day, and leave after the Girls and Junior Mentors in order to have a debriefing session sharing experiences and general input with the Steering Committee. We also have regular Mentor bonding events.

Several mentors are assigned to a group of girls when they arrive on Saturdays. These groups are same each week. While not all activities are completed within groups, many activities are.

Most Saturdays are theme days. On theme days, a particular topic is discussed in depth through a variety of interactive and fun activities. Superhero Day 2013 addressed leadership qualities through a guided discussion, drawings, and a visit from an AKOG alumnus. Anti-Violence Day 2013 addressed being a kind community member through yoga, play performances, and a talk from Professor Sam Diener. Crazy Fun Day 2013 addressed taking time to create joy in your life through a photobooth, frame-making, Gak, and more! Every week is different. For a list of our planned themes for the 2014-2015 sessions, click here.

In addition, we typically go on two field trips per year. In the past, we have traveled to the Rock Gym, Boston Aquarium, Boston Museum of Science, and Roller Kingdom. These trips are an exciting chance to go off-campus and explore somewhere new together!

AKOG will always be free-of-cost. It is conveniently located at Atwood Hall, and we provide a nutritious lunch every week.

We would love for you to be a part of AKOG! Mentors are a key component of AKOG and crucial to the success of our mission. For more information about becoming a mentor, click here.
